6 Georgians Wrestle for Medals

 

Preliminary fights of the first three weight classes finished at European Open which is underway at Sports Palace. 6 from 12 Georgian judokas continue wrestling for medals.

Amiran Papinashvili and Paata Merebashvili went through to final of 60kg. Papinashvili will wrestle against Ieldos Smetov of Kazakhstan and Merebashvili – against Shinji Kido of Japan. Georgian champion Vazha Margvelashvili lost gold-silver chance in ¼ final. He lost to Smetov and will wrestle against Rustam Ibrayev of Kazakhstan in repechage final. Giorgi Brolashvili lost to Ido Bar of Israel in the first round.

In 66kg Tornike Tatarashvili and Tristan Peikrishvili will wrestle for Top 3. Tatarashvili is in semifinal and will wrestle against Dmitri Shershan of Belarus. Shershan won over Peikrishvili in ¼ final and the Georgian will wrestle against Andrei Burdon of Ukraine in repechage. Mindia Liluashvili lost 1/16 final, Vaniko Totladze – 1/8 final.

Zebeda Rekhviashvili has a chance to win medal in 73kg. In repechage final he will wrestle against Takenori Nakamura of japan. 1/8 final turned out a big obstacle for Giorgi Papunashvili and Arsen Macharashvili. Nugzar Tatalashvili, member of Georgian national team, wrestled only once on tatami – he pushed Elias Aliakbar of Iran and lost.

The finals started at 17:00.
