Repeated games of the second round turned out successful for Georgian chess players at Women’s World Chess Championship. Lela Javakhishvili (2455) defeated world No.7 Kateryna Lahno of Ukraine (2553) with black pieces. As the Georgian had played draw in the first game, she made through to 1/8 final. As for Nino Khurtsidze (2428), she had lost to world No.5 Xue Zhao (2565). Yesterday the Georgian took revenge and tie-break will find out winner.
In spite of that, Javakhishvili was not considered as a favorite, she beat the Ukrainian on the 73rd move. Lela is among world’s best 16 chess players. In 1/8 final Dronavalli Harika of India (2512) will be opponent of the Georgian. The Indian beat Elina Danielian (2476) – 1.5:0.5. In the first round the Armenian defeated Sophiko Khukhashvili (2383).
Nino Khurtsidze took revenge over Xue Zhao on the 39th move and the score became draw – 1:1. Tie-break will find out winner and it will be held today.
At first the chess players will play two 25-minute games. In case of equal results, two 10-minute games will be held.
If winner is not found out after that, two 5-minute games will be held. Then Armageddon will find out winner – 5 minutes/4 minutes. In case of draw, blacks will be announced as winners.
Winner between Zhao and Khurtsidze will play against Mariya Muzychuk of Ukraine (2476) who won over Maritza Arribas Robaina of Cuba (2273) 1.5:0.5 in the second round. The Cuban beat Bela Khotenashvili (2504) in the first round.
