On the last day of fall 2012, at the annual meeting held in Paris, 44 countries of FIRA-AER selected Jean-Claude Baqué as the president for four years. After the elections, there was held election for vice-president and Giorgi Nizharadze the president of Georgian rugby union became the vice-president.
Yesterday there was held a draw for World Cup 2015 and there were found out probable opponents of Georgian national team.
“World Sport” has connected to the president of Georgian Rugby Union and the vice-president of FIRA-AER Gia Nizaharadze for making comment about all these and congratulated appointing on a new position:
- Thanks a lot of congratulations. There were held presidential, vice-presidential and executive committee elections in Paris. Baque will be head of this organization for four years again. As for me, I will be the vice-president of the organization.
- What about your duties, as the vice-president of FIRA-AER?
- My duty is development of rugby in south. We have to make coordinates to Greece, Turkey, Ukraine, Azerbaijan, Armenia… besides this I will work in relations between FIRA and “Six Natios”.
- Are there talks about advancing winner of Nations Cup in “Six Nations”?
- It is too early to talk about it, but the ice is melting. Dialogue will start between us, there will be signed memorandum, but we should not wait for uniting “Nations Cup” and “Six Nations” in the nearest future.
- Is your current position will make referees be fairer in attitude towards Georgia?
- I cannot say that referees punished us too much at Nations Cup. This problem is more evident when IRB settles referees. In a word, this problem does not trouble only us. My position, will let us to develop more and achieve more success. It is mechanism of doing more in Georgia. Selecting me as the vice-president is appraising of the generation, who did much in developing Georgian rugby.
- What about draw of World Cup 2015 and which is more desirable pool for Georgia?
-We have to compete at World Cup as the winner of Nations Cup in any case. Pool C is better for us than pool D. we will hold two very difficult matches there and it is quite possible to win both of them, but it is also possible to lose them. In pool C we have to beat champion of Africa in any case and use this cycle in beating Tonga. Argentine is also in this pool and we have experience of playing against it. We played against this team at both world cup, where we participated in. as for New Zealand, we know that we lost the match with it with a lot of point difference, but for every rugby player it is a big honor to play against it and gain experience. That’s why winning “Nations Cup” will be an ideal version because we will be in the pool where New Zealand is.
P.S. we even do not discuss that Georgian team might take the third place at “Nations Cup” and that’s why we did not ask anything to Gia Nizharadze about playing in repechage in case of taking the third place.
