The first day of World Women’s Chess Championship turned out unsuccessful for Georgian chess players. The championship is underway in the city of Russia, Khanty-Mansiysk. Only one Georgian achieved success.
Bela Khotenashvili (2504) won over Maritza Arribas Robaina of Cuba (2273) on the 47th move.
Nino Khurtsidze (2428) played draw with Elena Dembo of Greece (2454) on the 42nd move. Lela Javakhishvili (2455) and Sophiko Khukhashvili (2383) lost their games. Both Georgian chess players played with black pieces: Lela lost to Anastasia Bodnaruk of Russia (2415) on the 31st move and Sophiko lost to Elina Danielian (2476) on the 59th move.
The first round games of knockout system will be held on November 10 and 11. If it is necessary, tie-breaks will be held on November 13. Overall, six rounds will be held and finalists will play four games. Prize money of World Championship is 450 000 USD.
