Two in Yerevan

 

International chess tournament has started in the capital of Armenia, Yerevan. This tournament is dedicated to the memory of former Prime Minister Andranik Margaryan. 10 chess players are participating in it. Two Georgians Davit Benidze (2524) and Shota Azaladze (2471) are among them.

Two rounds were held but the Georgians are still expecting the first victory. In the first round, Azaladze and Benidze played draws. In the second round, Azaladze lost to Tigran Arutunian (Armenia, 2358) with black pieces. Benidze played draw with Levon Babujian (Armenia, 2497) with black pieces.

Benidze is in the 7th place with 7 points. Azaladze comes after him with 0.5 point. There are three leaders: Karen Grigorian (Armenia, 2513), Arutinian (2358) and Aleksei Goganov (Russia, 2545) with 1.5-1.5 point.

Nine rounds will be held at the tournament and it will end up on January 15. Prize money is 2 500 USD.
